As ifDestiny 2’s Final Shape expansion wasn’t anticipated enough as it is, players will gain access to the brand-new Prismatic subclass upon starting the expansion, and it looks like it could very well shake things up for the meta. Rather than introducing a new damage type as every other subclass inDestiny 2has done, the Prismatic subclass will allow players to combine their powers of Light and Darkness for one of the game’s most versatile subclasses to date. As Bungie has been prioritizing buildcrafting inDestiny 2for some time now, the Prismatic subclass could be considered the developer’s coup de grace after a long series of mishaps and pitfalls.

With the all-new Prismatic subclass being as versatile as it is, one might see it eventually taking overDestiny 2’s meta, essentially putting every normal subclass to death. After all, with the ability to utilize a combination of powers from their Light subclasses (Arc, Solar, Void) and their Dark subclasses (Stasis and Strand), it gives the impression that there may not be any more need for normal subclasses inDestiny 2. However, there has already been enough information given about the Prismatic subclass to predict its impact on the meta and whether it will delegitimize the use ofDestiny 2’s current subclasses.

How the Prismatic Subclass' Might Fit Into the Destiny 2 Meta

Destiny 2’s Prismatic Subclass Will Enjoy a Meta-Dominating Honeymoon Phase

Just as every new subclass or subclass update has in the past,Destiny 2’s Prismatic subclass will most likely enjoy a honeymoon phase of dominating the meta. However, the likelihood of this happening isn’t necessarily tied to the subclass' versatility or its potential to be overpowered. Instead, the Prismatic subclass will likely dominate the meta for a brief period, primarily because it will be something new for players to try. WhenThe Final Shape releases in June, most ofDestiny 2’s veteran players will likely be experimenting with the subclass to come up with the builds for it, and newcomers and casual players will probably be scouring the internet for the best Prismatic builds available.

This honeymoon phase will likely last for at least thirty days or so following the release of The Final Shape untilDestiny 2encourages players to prioritize the use of other subclasses, or they simply grow tired of it and want something different.

Destiny 2’s Prismatic Subclass' Impact on the Meta Will Eventually Even Out

As it is currently, the Prismatic subclass has been specifically designed to be balanced with the other subclasses. IfDestiny 2veterans know anything about Bungie, it’s that the developer likes to keep things balanced and that much has potentially been accomplished with the Prismatic subclass. Specifically, Prismatic-users can only access “a selection of Light and Darkness abilities from all damage types.” Upon further inspection, it’s clear that the Prismatic subclass lacks many of the best abilities and fragments ofDestiny 2’s current subclasses. LikeDragon’s Dogma 2’s Warfarer class, which has lower base stats to compensate for being able to use skills from every other vocation,Destiny 2’s Prismatic subclass should be balanced at the launch of The Final Shape.

If the new Prismatic subclass is out of balance in any way, players can rest assured that Bungie won’t stand for it. There will likely be a significant update within the first week or two of The Final Shape’s release, ensuring that the Prismatic subclass is kept in balance with everything else. That being said, Bungie may feel inclined to allow players more time with the potentially overpowered subclass before nerfing it in any way. Regardless of what happens,Destiny 2’s Prismatic subclassis something big for players to look forward to, as the franchise has never seen anything like it.
