The space-fantasy universe ofDestiny 2means there’s a variety of names and titles that can often feel unique to the game, but one player has pointed outDiablo 4seems to share many of the names guardians can find spread across the Sol System. There is no shortage of either across both games given the emphasis on loot and activities, whether it beDiablo’s various Nightmare DungeonsorDestiny’s Trials of Osiris, opening the door for name parody between both games. However, it appears the games' naming structures are more similar than some players may initially believe, as one player points out online.Destiny 2is currently in the middle of Season of the Deep, the current season of content picking up from the end ofLightfall’s and Season of Defiance’s narratives. The season sees guardians venture to a recently returned Titan after receiving a distress call from Deputy Commander Sloane to protect a leviathan being living within the moon’s methane oceans. However, the Hive god Xivu Arath is beginning to make her presence in the Sol System more directly known as she attempts to stop players from learning what the creature knows about The Witness.RELATED:Destiny 2 Responds to Accusations of Art TheftDestinyandDiablo’s similar naming structures were noticed by Twitter user Destiny_thememe who, as their name states, provides a near-constant stream ofDestiny-related memes across social media. One, in particular, pointed out the similar gear names and player titles in both games, including a Gilded Deadeye title and a piece of high-quality gear titled Arbalest. Where the latter of these two differ isDiablo 4’s Arbalest is a crossbow and more true to life, versusDestiny 2’s Arbalest exotic linear fusion rifle.
The biggest deviation among the names shown, though, is each game’s use of Drifter. InDiablo 4, it serves as a player title that can be earned after successfully completing any of the game’s strongholds. The Drifter inDestiny 2, by comparison, serves as the vendor for Gambit and has become a more prominent figure within the game’s narrative over the last few years.
While the naming parody may catch some players by surprise, others can argue that it isn’t surprising given the size of each game and emphasis on loot. TheDestinyuniverse, alone, has roughly 10 years of content across its various expansions and seasons brimming with names leaning into the franchise’s sci-fi and fantasy aesthetic. It is likely to continue asDiablo 4heads into its first season, bringing with it plenty more dungeons to explore and enemies to battle.
Destiny 2is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
