Hideo Kojima recently gave an exciting update forDeath Stranding 2: On the Beach, revealing that filming and voice recording has been completed for the upcoming sequel.Death Stranding 2was first shown off during The Game Awards 2022 with a cryptic teaser of an older Sam Porter Bridges and plenty of surreal imagery. A few years later, fans were greeted with a longerDeath Stranding 2story trailer that detailed Sam and Fragile’s new mission to reconnect their post-apocalyptic world, just like they did for the United Cities of America in the first game.
TheDeath Stranding 2story trailer also provided an updated release window of 2025, and since then, small snippets of information have been emerging from the shadows. At the beginning of 2024, Hideo Kojima noted that he and his production team would be developingDeath Stranding 2and the Xbox-exclusive horror titleODsimultaneously throughout the year and that Japanese voice recordings for the latter would soon begin. About a month later, the ever-enigmatic Kojima confirmed thatDeath Stranding 2is moving away from the former United States setting of the first game, something that was hinted at in the trailer.

Hideo Kojima recently spoke again aboutDeath Stranding 2on his NHK radio show “Hideo Kojima’s Radio: Infinity” earlier this month. As reported byFamitsu(viaAutomaton Media), Kojima said that the development team has finished shooting and recording withDeath Stranding 2’s cast, though he didn’t specify if this was for the English or Japanese version. Next comes an “adjustment phase,” in which the developers will work on adjusting gameplay and visual elements. According to Kojima, this will take about a year to complete.

Hideo Kojima also spoke about themost recentDeath Stranding 2trailer, and how the development staff aimed to showcase the game’s overall look, themes, and gameplay, as well as what will carry over from the firstDeath Strandingand how the sequel sets itself apart through its characters. Sure enough, said trailer featured returningDeath Strandingcharacters like Norman Reedus’s Sam, Lea Seydoux’s Fragile, and even Troy Baker as a redesigned, more rocker-like Higgs. Newcomers toDeath Stranding 2include Elle Fanning as an unnamed character andMad Maxdirector George Miller as the face model for the Drawbridge Captain working with Fragile.
According to Hideo Kojima, the star-studded cast ofDeath Stranding 2is done filming and recording for the game, assuming that his recent statement was for the English cast. However, fans will still probably have to wait a long time to playDeath Stranding 2: On the Beach, as the development staff is still working on the game’s “adjustment phase” that will reportedly last for a whole year - meaning thatDeath Stranding 2will likely launch in late 2025 at the earliest.
