Patch 6.6 forDead by Daylightbrought players the Tools of Torment DLC, introducing a new Killer, two Survivors, and a reworked Shelter Woods map, among a number of bug fixes and visual updates. In response, fans met the new content with a lukewarm reaction, disappointed with the genlocking potential of the Killer and the rather lackluster perks that accompanied the DLC. Now, two patches later,Dead by Daylightplayers are continuing to find issues with the game.Following a string of alleged DDOS attacks, primarily targeting big-name streamers in the community, theDead by Daylightofficial Twitter account has stated that a thorough investigation into DDOS reports has uncovered “no evidence… to suggest any personal IP addresses have been leaked.” The team behind the popular asymmetric horror game instead attribute these reports to a common crash that appeared in games afterDead by Daylight’s 6.6 update. The account reaffirms that player safety “remains an utmost concern,” and pledges to continue monitoring the situation.RELATED:Blumhouse Is Prepping Another Horror Video Game AdaptionThis news has not been received well by some members of theDead by Daylightcommunity, with many players feeling thatthe DDOS attacksfrom the past week have been well documented by a variety of players.
Over the last few days, players who are frequently made the victim of the purported DDOS attacks have been forced to use a Virtual Private Network to help mask their IP address or turn away from the game entirely. There is also evidence to suggest that the DDOS attacks are exclusively a Steam-related issue, meaning players using an Epic Games account are less prone to these supposed security leaks.
Popular streamers like Otzdarva have highlighted this, making it clear that crashes are unlikely to take down a player’s internet connection in the process, and switching to Epic Games shouldn’t prevent a crash like the one described inBehaviour’s patch notes. Nevertheless, they remain optimistic that the developers will continue their inquiry and identify the source of the crashes soon.
As some point out, this tweet doesn’t dismiss the DDOS reports entirely, merely keeping fans updated on the investigative process. In this post, BHVR is simply stating that many of the DDOS reports that it has received are crash related and that it is yet to find anything regarding the leakage of IP addresses. Whether or not the source of these ostensible leaks will be found remains to be seen.
