The open-worldzombie-survival game,DayZ,will leave beginners to the game incredibly frustrated. Anyone who is new to the harsh world ofDayZwill be met with quick starvation or dehydration, hungry zombies, ruthless players, and other game mechanics that no other game generally thinks to utilize, like passing out due to pain.

This game definitely proves difficult, especially when just spawning into a server. The player will find themselves in beginner areas, and sometimes it can be very complicated to acquire food or water, which is of the highest priority when it comes to surviving inDayZ. Luckily, there are several ways that experienced players have used to make gathering these necessities much easier.
8Fruit Trees
Upon freshly spawning into thevast Russian lands inDayZ, survivors should quickly take note of their surroundings. Assuming players are nearby a city or town, there are plenty of opportunities for them to find food or water. Fruit trees are one of the best ways to obtain food, especially for new spawns.
These trees are located within towns, and usually always have fruit spawned beneath it. It’s important to pick up fruit, even if it’s rotten, so that fresh fruit has a chance to spawn in its place. Going around a town and picking up fruit can give a player so much fruit, they don’t know what to do with it all!
7Public Water Pumps
Located in mostly all large cities, or bigger towns, is at least one public water pump. These pumps are incredibly beneficial to any survivor, as they’re an infinite source of water that players can drink from or fill up their water containers.

Drinking from these water pumps has a VERY low chance of getting a player sick, so it’s worth hydrating at a pump when a player can. It’s also best to fill up as many containers as possible when visiting a water pump, so that the survivor won’t have to continuously worry about hydration for a while.
6Houses
Definitely a go-to for every rookie survivor in thenever-to-be-forgottenDayZ, is to loot houses. It’s an obvious idea to loot houses, since there are so many and that’s naturally where one would expect there to be supplies, but one can find it pretty difficult; it’s very time-consuming.
When looting houses, it’s best to watch examine houses quickly through windows, and if there’s food or any beverages inside, then it is worth entering. Otherwise, the player can quickly move along to other buildings.
5Zombies
Easily one of the most quickly efficient ways to gather food and beverages,is by killing zombies, and then looting their bodies. Obviously, this method of gathering necessities can be dangerous, so it’s important to take any precautions a player can.
For instance, one can utilize building windows to fight zombies from, minimizing any injury. If a player can lead a group of zombies towards a window, they have a quick and easy way to farm food, drinks, and sometimes other items they might need.
4Gardening
As anyexperienced survival playerwill state, gardening can prove to be very beneficial in the long-run of playingDayZ. Seeds and gardening equipment are pretty easy to come by, so gardening is a simple, yet bountiful way to ensure a player has enough food to live off of.
The survivor can grab a shovel, any kind of seed, pick a spot to plant them, take care of them, and sure enough they’ll have a source of food to last them until that spot is gone! It’s also a great way for any survivor groups to ensure a community food.
3Washed Up Boats
When spawning in beginner locations around a beach, the first thing a survivor should look for are washed up boats. These boats are fairly small, and they are wooden, not standing out in agame that isn’t too cinematic.
Most of the time, items seem to spawn around these small boats, and it’s a great way to quickly gather food and drink before heading further into the devilish lands of apocalyptic Russia. Even for players who are fairly progressed into the game, it’s a good idea to check these boats out whenever they’re nearby, to ensure a survivor’s needs are met.
2Ponds
For players who find themselves further north rather than nearby any southern grand cities with water pumps, it may seem more difficult to locate sources of water. Fortunately for these wilderness survivors, there are plenty of ponds, lakes, and creeks that water resides in.

It’s important to note though, that this water technically isn’t drinkable just yet. The player must fill up any containers they have with this water, which is dirty, and then proceed to boil it using a fire. This makes the water drinkable, making these bodies of water a great source of hydration!
1Vending Stands
Throughout the cities inDayZ, there are a plentiful amount of buildings, houses, and other architectural significances. One of these that should be on the watch from any survivor wandering through these cities, are vending stands.
These stands are pretty small when compared to other buildings, but they usually withhold consumables for a survivor to eat or drink. These stands are also referred to as “food kiosks,” and usually showcase food symbolism on the logo of the stand. These are great ways to find food and drink for theDayZsurvivor!
