The teaser is short but effective. Lots of footage is shown ofRadcliffe deep in his role as Al Yankovic, including clips of him performing on stage as the singer. What’s explicitly known of the story is vague, but the costuming and production of the film look detailed and accurate. Those who know what Yankovic’s life is like might know what to expect, but those who don’t can prepare to be surprised.
The new film was originally a fake trailer for a film of the same name made forFunny Or Dieby Appel in 2010. That trailer featuredBreaking Badstar Aaron Paulin the lead role, and Paul would have made a cameo in the feature-length picture had he not tested positive for COVID-19 during shooting. Ultimately, Radcliffe claims he was cast for the film due to an appearance he had onThe Graham Norton Showwhere he sang “The Elements” by Tom Lehrer.
Appel claims that upon meeting and talking with Yankovic, he was inspired to make a real film based on him and his experiences. As a relatively private person, not a lot is known about his upbringing or who he is, save for a highly publicized incident in which his parents were both killed in their home through accidental carbon monoxide poisoning. AsWeird Al Yankovic has amassed a huge amount of fansover his many years in the business, his story should draw a fair amount of interest.
Though it dates back to 2010 origins, the production of the full film has been extremely fast. The film was only announced in January 2022, with filming starting the following month. It was an eighteen-day shoot in total, with Radcliffe finishing his role in sixteen days.
WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Storyis expected to be released on Roku in late 2022.
