Social media was abuzz yesterday when it was teased there would be alimited editionCyberpunkNvidia graphics cardto promote CD Projekt Red’s upcoming open-world role-playing gameCyberpunk 2077. Turns out when the Nvidia GeForce Twitter account told the world to “stay tuned,” the company was not planning on making fans wait very long given the tie-in product was officially unveiled today.
The special graphics card is a yellow-and-black version of the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, a piece of tech released in 2018 that currently goes for $1,199 and is described as Nvidia’s “newest flagship graphics card” on its website. The general color scheme and digital blue text adorning the bottom of the device screamCyberpunk 2077’s aesthetic, especially in the short video uploaded to the Nvidia GeForce Twitter where glitchy jpeg artifacts obscure part of the image.

There are only going to be 77 of the cards in circulation, and they will not be available to purchase according to the game’s Twitter account. Instead, it appears the limited edition devices will be doled out through events over time, unlike other merchandise being sold including theCyberpunk 2077Funko Pop toysrevealed at the London Toy Fair last month.
The first set of graphics cards are available to the public through a contest on Twitter whereby users retweet the video posted by Nvidia GeForce and tag someone else who is “as excited as you are” about the upcoming game. Social media is inextricably linked to marketing in the 21st Century, be it through giveaways and contests like this or simply to gauge interest in game releases like with a campaign to getPersona 5 Royalported to the Nintendo Switchspurred by Atlus Communications Manager Ari Advincula.
Hype forCyberpunk 2077is at an all-time high following the game’s delay to September announced last month. Though CD Projekt Red has confirmed the delay was meant to give developersmore time to optimizeCyberpunk 2077, it joins a number of other games including theFinal Fantasy 7 RemakeandMarvel’s Avengersthat have been pushed back in 2020.
Because of the small stock, fans of Nvidia’s limited edition graphics card should not get their hopes up on snagging one. The RTX 2080 Ti has also been found to struggle running otheropen-world games likeRed Dead Redemption 2at their maximum settings, so it will be interesting to see how the device fares with the upcoming title it’s promoting.
Cyberpunk 2077is set to release on September 17th, 2020, for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
