After several years of calling onCommunityto fulfill the promise of “six seasons and a movie,” creator Dan Harmon and the cast of the acclaimed NBC comedy series are reuniting for a Peacock movie.
Communitycentered on an ensemble cast of characters who attend a community college in the fictional town of Greendale, with meta-humor and pop culture references used to pay homage to various tropes and cliches in film and TV. Though the critically praised series was ultimately canceled after six seasons in 2015,the idea of aCommunitymoviepersisted as recently as the summer of 2022.

Now, Peacock has greenlit an officialCommunitymovie after securing the rights from Harmon in a bidding war with other platforms.The Hollywood Reporternotes thatseries stars Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong are set to reprise their roles in theCommunitymovie. However, Donald Glover, Chevy Chase, and Yvette Nicole Brown are not attached to the movie at this time and Peacock representatives reportedly declined to comment on whether negotiations would take place to bring them on board. That said, Harmon himself will pen theCommunitymovie screenplay with Andrew Guest, the latter of whom penned multiple episodes of the series. Harmon and Guest will serve as executive producers alongside McHale, Russ Krasnoff and Gary Foster.
Thelong-awaitedCommunitymoviewill be a co-production between Sony and Universal Television. “Six seasons and a movie’ started out as a cheeky line fromCommunity’searly seasons and quickly ignited a passionate fan movement for this iconic, hilarious and cool (cool, cool) NBC comedy,” said Susan Rovner, chairman of entertainment content at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “We’re incredibly grateful that 15 years later, we are able to deliver fans this promised movie and can’t wait to get to work with Dan Harmon, Andrew Guest, Joel McHale, Sony and our partners at UTV to continue this epic comedy for Peacock audiences.”
That said,Communityoften struggled in the ratings, as its brand of humor evidently appealed to a specific type of audience. Still, meta-humor is arguably more popular than ever, so perhapsCommunity’s time to appeal to a larger audience has finally come.
