The Witcher 3: Wild Hunthas a lot of popular mods, and for those worrying about whether their favorites will be compatible with the inbound next-gen upgrade, developer CD Projekt Red has been testing some of the more notable ones. Famous for being avideo game with a lot of lore, the third installment in theWitcherseries is considered by many to be one of the greatest western RPGs of the last decade. It’s not surprising, therefore, that fans are anticipating this update.
The Witcher 3is coming to PS5 and Xbox Serieson December 14, and as many have already guessed, the port will give the 2015 fantasy title a graphical boost. Of course, the original release is still a visual marvel, but the move over to newer systems will provide a much crisper experience, with all the trimmings that come with improvements to a game’s graphics. But it’s not just the visual aspects, either. The upgrade, which will be free for those who already have the game on PS4 or Xbox One, will also introduce a collection of community mods.

In order to prepare for this, CDPR has been testing some of the more popularThe Witcher 3modifications and has released a spreadsheet detailing which work and which don’t. The spreadsheet lists 71 mods, along with their links on Nexus Mods, the folder they need to be installed in, the result of their compatibility test, and any additional comments. Of the 71 in the list, 38 of them appear to work, leaving 33 that aren’t compatible with the next-gen upgrade, with notes saying things like “script error” or “no visual effects.”
It’s good that the studio has gone to the trouble of testing which community mods will work, so fans can at least see which of their favorites they can continue to use. Alongside the upgrade,CD Projekt Red is also remaking the originalWitchergame from 2007. Not only will this be a complete rebuild of the 15-year-old RPG, which has aged over the years, but it looks as though it’s going to be more open-world, bringing it in line with the second and third entries.
As if that wasn’t enoughWitchernews, the studio is also working on a new entry in the epic series, and has announced asequel toCyberpunk 2077as well. With all these projects in the pipeline, the Polish developer is going to be busy for the next few years, but many fans will be excited about what’s on the horizon.
