While Capcom has found a great deal of success with its remakes of theResident Evilgames, its next remake should beDino Crisis. Capcom has been remaking its games for decades now, often releasing them to great critical acclaim and strong sales. TheResident Evilseriesespecially has been subject to remakes from Capcom, dating back to the originalResident Evilremake that launched as a GameCube exclusive in 2002.
TheResident Evilremake added new story content, vastly improved the graphics, and enhanced the horror of the original game, with many pointing to it as one of the best remakes ever made. 17 years later, Capcom released the long-awaitedResident Evil 2remake, which was followed by remakes ofResident Evil 3andResident Evil 4. While theResident Evil 3remake was somewhat more divisive, theResident Evil 2andResident Evil 4remakes have earned rave reviews, creating an appetite for Capcom to recreate even more of its classicREtitles.

There is quite a bit of demand for Capcom to remakeResident Evil Code: Veronicanext, while others would rather see aResident Evil 5remake. Capcom has not actually announced any plans for its next remake game, so it’s unclear when one might materialize. However, there are rumors thatCapcom is makingResident Evil 9next, so it will likely be a few years before fans find out more. Regardless, Capcom may want to pump the brakes on theResident Evilremakes for now, and instead giveDino Crisisits time in the spotlight.
Why Capcom Should Remake Dino Crisis Next
For those who aren’t familiar withDino Crisis, it’s a survival-horror game directed byResident Evilfranchise creator Shinji Mikami. Originally released in 1999, the firstDino Crisisgame plays very similarly to Capcom’sResident Evilfranchise, but trades zombies for dinosaurs.Dino Crisisputs its own spin onResident Evil-style puzzles and storytelling, and holds up as one of the best survival-horror games released for the PS1.
Dino Crisis 2took a much more action-oriented approach than the first game, which has made it a bit more divisive among fans.Dino Crisis 3, meanwhile, is pretty much universally disliked. TheDino Crisisfranchise went completely off the rails with the third installment, completely abandoning its survival-horror roots and becoming a futuristic sci-fi shooter game with a frustrating camera. TheDino Crisisfranchise has been dormant ever since, but there’s no reason why Capcom couldn’t bring it back in the same way that it’s remade theResident Evilgames to great success.

Whereas most of theResident Evilfranchise is readily available to play on modern platforms, the same can’t be said forDino Crisis. The originalDino Crisiswas a timed-PS1 exclusive before making its way to PC and Dreamcast, but has never been re-released beyond that. A modern remake would not only give fans the chance to reliveDino Crisis, but could also bring the experience to modern standards. ThinkResident Evil 2remake level of polish, but withDino Crisis' story and setting.
And if apotentialDino Crisisremakeproved successful enough, perhaps it could be the catalyst that brings the franchise back in full force. A remake ofDino Crisis 2could follow, and from there, Capcom could ignoreDino Crisis 3and give the franchise a fresh start.
There have been rumors about aDino Crisisremake in the past, but nothing solid has actually come from them. According to leaks, there once was a time when aDino Crisisremake or newDino Crisisgame was in development at Blue Castle Games, aka Capcom Vancouver, but that project was apparently scrapped. Capcom Vancouver has since been shut down, dashing further hopes that thecanceledDino Crisisproject, whatever it was, could eventually be released to the masses.
Capcom seems to be aware of fan demand for theDino Crisisfranchise to return, however. Capcom used acharacter that looks similar toDino Crisisprotagonist Reginato promote its new gameExoprimal. This move angered some fans who felt as though Capcom used a bait and switch tactic to generate more interest in itsExoprimalgame, but perhaps the uproar online showed that company that fans are hungry for moreDino Crisisadventures.
As it stands, theDino Crisisfranchise remains extinct and there are no currently no announced plans to bring it back. The most likely scenario is that Capcom’s next remake will be yet anotherResident Evilproject, whether that’sCode: VeronicaorResident Evil 5. And before that, it’s quite possible that Capcom will release more content for theResident Evil 4remake. The Assignment Ada and Separate Ways campaigns are still missing from the game after all, and there are some characters that fans wouldn’t mind see coming to The Mercenaries mode at some point either.
