The unstoppableCall of Dutyfranchise issmashing through sales records, as players flock to both the tried-and-true multiplayer mode inModern Warfare, as well as the battle royale offshoot,Warzone.Developers Infinity Ward and Raven Software continue to tweakWarzone, with the latest teased change proposed for the Gulag.

The limited selection of weapons handed to players in the Gulag is an intentional feature of the 1v1 fight, to test players' skills with a specific set of weapons. While some prominent streamers have already been calling for achange to the Gulag, Infinity Ward isn’t quite ready to pull the trigger.

Ending up in the Gulag can be demoralizing, but the unique arena offers players a chance to earn their way back into the battle royale chaos outside. While the loadout in the Gulag alternates between a few simple presets, lead designer at Raven Software, Amos Hodge, discusses potential changes to the Gulag in future updates ofWarzone.Hodge stresses the weapon pool will remain small, but that they “are looking at changing up the Gulag starting weapons for future updates to keep things fresh.” Hodge doesn’t state when these new weapons might find their way into the Gulag, but a refresh for Season 4 does seem likely.

Keeping things fresh is the name of the game when it comes to a game likeWarzone.By shaking up the playlistsavailable to players, every time they log in, there is something new to experience. Tweaking the standard BR Solos playlist to the Stimulus Mode variant is the kind of small change that leads to new strategies being employed and keeps the game from feeling stale. The same applies to the Gulag, where the idea of different weapon sets will surely shake up how players approach the 1v1 fight.

Some of theideas floated by fansinclude adding some of the higher caliber weapons to the Gulag loadouts, making the tight Gulag quarters feel even smaller. Sniper rifles might be a tad cumbersome in the small arena, but some of the assault rifles and SMGs would make for some frantic fights.

TheWarzoneupdate schedule is constant, which keeps players from getting tired of the game. While some updates are smaller quality of life improvements, others would drastically change the experience. The rumor floating around about anentirely new map forWarzonewould be on the more drastic side of things. Even on a new map, players will likely find themselves in the Gulag at least once or twice, and a couple of new weapons in there would be nice.

Call of Duty: Warzoneis available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
