The NPD Group recently released its February 2020 financial report, which paints a picture of the current state ofvideo game hardware, software, and accessory sales in the United States. While some fans will certainly be interested to see the total expenditures within these three categories, figures that are included in the new report, others will be more interested in what the best selling games of February 2020 were, and it isCall of Duty: Modern Warfarethat comes out on top.

Indeed, Infinity Ward’sCall of Duty: Modern Warfarewas the best selling game in the United States over the course of February 2020. This is certainly not the first time that this extremely-popular first-person shooter has appeared at the top of the NPD Group’s monthly report, and it has wrestled the number one slot back fromDragon Ball Z: Kakarot, the current best selling title of 2020 and the fourth top seller of February.

Rounding out the top five for February 2020 areNBA 2K20,Grand Theft Auto 5, andThe Division 2, which saw a big boost thanks to promotions surrounding the release of itsWarlords of New York expansion. To note, these rankings are based on dollar sales, as opposed to unit sales, and they consider both physical and digital sales in the United States. A more comprehensive list of the best selling games of February 2020 is as follows:

Interestingly, not a single game released in February 2020 made the month’s top 20, andYakuza Remastered Collectionwas the best selling new release at 33. This is not extremely surprising, considering that February was quite light on major new releases, and this dearth of new games undoubtedly contributed to the 31% decrease in video game software spending that is seen when comparing February 2020 to the same month last year.

Video game software sales were not all that was down in February, though, as hardware and accessories sales were also well below where they were in February 2019. Overall, the NPD Group’s report suggests that video game-related sales were down 29% when comparing these two periods – a phenomenon that is very likely to be partly linked to the forthcoming releases of the PlayStation 5 andXbox Series Xconsoles.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfareis out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
