Following a delay to the start of the next season inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare, Infinity Ward subsequently announced the new release time a few hours before it actually arrived. Season 4 finally adds in fan favorite character Captain John Price as a playable character, in addition to a host of fixes and other content updates. While Infinity Ward warned fans that theSeason 4 update would be large, some have noted that the size is actually much bigger than expected.
On theCall of Duty: Modern WarfaresubReddit, players began reporting that the file size for this latest update is over 85GB. While the actual update is supposed to range from anywhere between 32-45GB, most of the issues appear to be impacting Xbox One users. Unfortunately, there’s no workaround for this and the recommended strategy is to just let the download complete.

Thankfully, the issue has not gone unnoticed by Activision support who confirmedthe massive file size problemthrough its Twitter account. Outside of the recommended fix, the issue remains under investigation. Unfortunately the news hasn’t sat well with fans as many have indicated that by the time a dedicated fix is found, most updates will be complete at that point. Others have lamented the fact that in order to get the update to go through, they had to delete a lot of content to make enough room.
Thegame’s growing file sizehas been a real concern for community members across all available platforms. Already, the game has approached 200GB on consoles and each update typically requires a sizable chunk of hard drive space to process. The Season 4 patch notes addresses this growing concern noting that the studio continues to make size reductions and further optimize future patches over these size concerns. Console players have also been advised to uninstalled various content packs of the game that are not in use such as Spec Ops for example.
Outside of the wild update size, Season 4 alsobrings back the fan favorite map Scrapyardpreviously last seen inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. As expected, players now have access to it in a 24/7 playlist option from the multiplayer menu. Infinity Ward is also trying something a bit different with its massively popular Warzone battle royale. Warzone Rumble is a brand new experience pitting two teams of 50 players each against one another. Thankfully, this addition hasn’t removed any of the core playlists of Solo, Duos, Trios, or Quads.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfareis available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
