After years of weekly publications announcing news, updates, and future content releases forDestiny 2, Bungie is officially doing away with the classic TWAB branding for its This Week at Bungie blog posts. The branding was kickstarted back in 2016 specifically to focus onDestinyas a franchise, having previously been known as the “Bungie Weekly Update,” and it’s now changing further still.
For the longest time, there was no reason for Bungie to rename the TWAB as the developer’s primary focus wasDestiny 2, but there are some big changes afoot at the studio, and its weekly blog posts are going to reflect that as well. Though the blog will continue as per usual,Destinyfans may have a bit of an adjustment coming up in the near future.

For this week’sDestiny 2blog post, Bungie has taken the time to clarify that the TWAB is no more. Instead, it’s being renamed to This Week in Destiny, or TWID for short. Though the blog doesn’t go into much detail about the why of this decision, it did mention that it’s got much to do withBungie’s live-service revival of theMarathonfranchise. Since Bungie promised that the TWID will continue per usual, odds are thatMarathonwill be getting its own weekly blog post series sometime down the line, its acronym candidate simply being TWIM.
Marathonis currently in the early stages of its development, and Bungie is keeping mum about any specifics of its production. It is going to be a live-service extraction shooter with PvP and PvE elements, and it’s not a direct sequel to any of the previousMarathongames. Though thethings that are known aboutMarathonare still slim at this time, Bungie is clearly poising itself to start publishing more information in the future.
Featuring a striking art style and a new direction for Bungie, it’s clear thatMarathonis extremely promising already. It makes sense that Bungie would act early to secure a sensible way to officially share information aboutMarathonwithout overridingDestiny’s own publications. Yet, now that Bungie’s attention is being split between at least two major franchises, it’s not hard to see why someDestinyfans may be worried about this development.
Hosting an official blog post doesn’t necessarily mean staying accountable, of course.Bungie has avoided commenting onDestiny 2’s missing featuresin the past, and though some of the community’s concerns did get brought up in TWAB posts, it’s a given that the studio might wish to avoid discussing such matters.Marathon’s own inevitable weekly blog posts may, therefore, fall victim to the same problems.
Destiny 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
