Bassinger appeared on theWayne Ayers Podcast, where she talked about the cancellation. Though she didn’t go into detail, she did say that series creator Geoff Johns had an inkling that the show might not be renewed. She stated, “Geoff [Johns] was so smart because obviously there’s beena lot of changes in the CWand the Warner Brothers this past year, so the future of any show was not quite certain and because of that, he went the extra mile and shot two different endings because he did not want to leave the fans with all these question marks."
While Bassinger added that the finale will have “a lot of beautiful closure," she also noted that the ending will make fans sad because of what could have been. “It will make people sad because the fourth-season idea was insane. Like, it would have been epic," she said. “And I actually believe that’s why it took so long for us to officially get the cancellation news because Geoff came in with such a wonderful idea…. But it wasn’t meant to
What this season might have entailed is uncertain, but the show had potential. Not only was its cast full of names like Joel McHale (soon to be seen in theCommunitymovie), it had brought in several deep-cut DC characters like Obsidian, the son of Green Lantern/Alan Scott.
Meanwhile, Obsidian’s sister Jade (also Green Lantern’s daughter) was brought on board inStargirlseason 2, and the show heavily centered on the Justice Society of America. There are lots of places a potential season 4 could have gone, and with most of the Arrowverse shows now over, there was plenty of room for some multiversal-level status quo changes.
