With the announcement ofOverwatch 2and the reveal of Damage hero Sojourn, many fans have assumed thatOverwatchwon’t be adding any new heroes until the new game launches. However,Overwatchgame director Jeff Kaplan made a comment during his traditional Yule Log livestream that has led some fans to believe that a new hero may be on the way sooner rather than later.
In the stream, Kaplan makes a comment about the Junker Queen, remarking that he wonders whether or not she will ever be a hero. He then talks about how Junker Queen wouldn’t be a support hero because that wouldn’t make sense, and then teases that she will either be a Damage hero or a Tank. This is one of the only things Kaplan said during theentire Yule Log stream, which has led some fans to believe that this is a genuine tease for Junker Queen.

ForOverwatchfans who haven’t done any deep dives into the lore, Junker Queen is the ruler of theJunkertown map. Not much is known about her abilities, but she has come into direct conflict with Junkrat and Roadhog, so her proper introduction will likely involve the two of them in some capacity.
Junker Queen has been rumored to be a playable hero inOverwatchbasically since the Junkertown map was added to the game, and so it wouldn’t be surprising to see her added to the roster of playable heroes eventually. However, she isn’t the only character that’s been rumored for theOverwatchroster. There are a number of other rumored characters waiting in the wings as well, who may not come to the roster untilOverwatch 2’s launch, if they do at all.
Besides Junker Queen, two other characters thatOverwatchfans have been waiting for include Mauga, whose abilities were recycled to createTank hero Sigma, and Echo, a robot who was seen in McCree’s animated short as well as theOverwatch 2reveal cinematic. Any one of these heroes could be next in line if Blizzard decides to add more new heroes beforeOverwatch 2, but who it will be exactly remains to be seen.
AnOverwatch 2release datehas yet to be announced, but if the hero shooter adds any of these characters to its roster in 2020, it should still be a big year forOverwatchfans.
Overwatchis out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
