Baldur’s Gate 3is a heavily acclaimed game beloved by fans of the franchise old and new. This game has an array of features to make it more immersive and interesting. One feature of the Warlock class is the Pact Boon, which players should look into before locking their choice as it can make for very different gameplay with their Warlock.
What Are Warlock Pacts?
Warlock Pacts are something that only players going through the Warlock class will unlock. They get them by first reaching level 3 as a Warlock. This will grant the player Pact Boon, which will allow them to choose between one of the three available options to them.
The Three Different Options For Warlock Pact
The game will allow the player to pick one of these three options available in their Pact Boon:
Pact Of The Chain
The first option that the player can choose is the Pact Of The Chain. As the name would suggest, it allows the player to “chain” a creature of their choosing to themselves. By picking this pact, the player can choose an animal, an imp, or a quasit to chain as a familiar.
This creature will then be able to attack for the player, helping them cause extra damage during combat. At level 5, the player’s chained creature will be able to attack twice, making them even more useful in a fight.

Familiars also can have some use while exploring or outside of combat, such as being a distraction to enemies.
Pact Of The Blade
The second pact the player can pick is the Pact Of The Blade. This pact is interesting as it allows the player to choose a weapon to bind. This weapon will then be able to be summoned during fights.
What makes these pact weapons truly powerful however, is the fact that they will be using the character’s spellcasting ability modifier (if the character stays a Warlock, that means the ability modifier will be charisma) instead of their strength or dexterity, depending on the type of weapon bound. This will, in simple terms, make the weapon magical.

At level 5, the character will be ableto make an extra attack with this pact weapon, which can be pretty destructive.
The player can bind any weapon, even if the character isn’t proficient with it. Binding the weapon makes the character automatically proficient in whatever it is.
Pact Of The Tome
The final pact the player should be aware of is the Pact Of The Tome. With this one, the player’s patron will grant them a special grimoire, known as the Book of Shadows.
With this grimoire, the Warlockwill gain access to various spells and cantrips. These are:
• Call Lightning
• Haste
If an Eldritch invocation is chosen, known as the Book of Ancient Secrets, the player will also access these new spells:
• Ray of Sickness
• Silence
Which Warlock Pact Is The Best in Baldur’s Gate 3?
The worst Warlock Pact would be the Pact Of The Chain. What makes this pact the worst is the fact that it is only a really useful early game and is unable to scale up to late-game BG3. The familiars are not strong enough to be useful later on, rendering them rather useless. Players should try and stay away from this pact as it holds little use. The other two will still be useful no matter how far into the game.
The second pact will go to the Pact Of The Tome. The Warlock spell list is rather slim, and having the boost of so many more spells and cantrips will definitely always be a welcomed option. They will make the Warlock more versatile in spell casting so it is definitely a great option for any player wishing for a more magic-based Warlock.
The very best Warlock pact is none other than the Pact Of The Blade. The player will always find powerful weapons as they explore, and binding them to their Warlock is an underrated ability. Not only that, but the ability to bind weapons that the warlock isn’t even proficient in is an extremely powerful ability as this meansno weapon is off limits for the Warlock.
The double attack with their weapon can also be stacked if the player is multiclassing, making it possible for a Warlock to hit even more than twice. Not only is the Pact of the Blade great for Warlocks, but it’s also amazing for any multiclassing in the game.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is now available to play on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 5.
