Atomic Heartfans who speak or understand Japanese will be pleased to know that update 1.5.0.0, which rolled out recently, now adds voiceover for this language and also implements a few bug fixes. Whilemany are waiting for the arrival ofDead Island 2, after it spent years in development, Mundfish’s Soviet-inspired shooter offers enough thrills to keep people entertained, and despite the game’s somewhat mixed reception, the studio is already planning a sequel.

Since releasing in February,Atomic Hearthas received a number of updates, with a recent one adding a new feature to the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game. Evidently, the team at Mundfish has a vested interest in keeping its FPS in good standing with the community by addressing some of the glitches and adding new things, and now the latest patch has been pushed out.

TheAtomic HeartSteam page lists some notable changes in version 1.5.0.0 of the game. While a few bugs have been fixed, including one where it was possible to get stuck in the geometry, one of the most significant updates is the implementation of Japanese voice work. The patch notes say the game now features “some of the finest and best Japanese voice actors,” includingMetal GearSolid’s Akio Otsuka and anime veteran Tomokazu Sugita, perhaps most famous for his role as Gintoki Sakata inGintama. The new voiceover work also features Yuki Kaji and Ami Koshimizu, who fans will already know from their impressive resumes.

This new update will be pleasing for those who are fans of the aforementioned actors or have been hoping for additional language support. It is a bit of a shame thatAtomic Heartdidn’t quite hit the markfor some. The game had some pretty interesting ideas, with it taking obvious influence from theBioShockseries, but many felt its performance issues, rather lackluster writing, and a protagonist that was oftentimes difficult to like were what held it back for the most part.

On top of that,Atomic Heartwas engaged in a number of controversiesnot long after release. For starters, Mundfish had been accused of accepting money from Russian companies, which many would consider insensitive given the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The developer also had to issue an apology after players noticed the game featured an old cartoon that depicted racist caricatures, which some fans found deeply offensive.
