The Asus ROG Matrix Platinum GeForce RTX 4090 GPU has launched as the most powerful and most expensive RTX 40 series card. It comes in at double the launch price of the Founders Edition (FE) RTX 4090 but looks nothing like a typical GPU. The company’s last GPU in its premium Matrix series was the RTX 2080 Ti which also came with a hefty price tag. There is also a special edition of this card signed by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, which will be auctioned to help the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Back in May at Computex, Asus showed off the ROG Matrix Platinum RTX 4090 GPU with an external radiator and the use of liquid metal. The company decided to skip a generation for its Matrix series of cards as the last premium GPU under this moniker was the RTX 2080 Ti. It was an air-cooled graphics card that launched at $1900. The new ROG Matrix Platinum RTX 4090 GPU seems to be following the same tradition but bringing more performance improvements.

Asus ROG Matrix Platinum GeForce RTX 4090 GPU Price
Asus has launched its RTX 4090 ROG Matrix Platinum graphics card, and it costs $3200 which makes it the most expensive RTX 4090 in the world. For reference, the Founders Edition RTX 4090 launched at $1599 which was considered to be an expensive card in itself. It looks like Asus is targeting the ultra-enthusiasts with its Matrix Platinum RTX 4090 GPU. Additionally, there is a special edition version of this card as well that has been signed by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. This one will be auctioned, and theproceeds will be given to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
According to Asus, the ROG Matrix Platinum GeForce RTX 4090 is available for purchase now, but it doesn’t seem to be listed on mainstream retail websites just yet. Here are some board partner SKUs you can buy right now.

Gigabyte Aorus RTX 4090 Xtreme Waterforce
The latest generation of GIGABYTE’s AORUS GeForce RTX 4090 Xtreme WATERFORCE, this is the best possible already water-cooled graphics card on the market. It’s important to note that while it is a relatively slim 4090 compared to the Founders Edition and ASUS ROG Strix, it still requires three fan slots in its eventual PC case.
MSI Suprim Liquid X GeForce RTX 4090
One of the more distinct cooling designs on the market, the MSI Suprim Liquid X GeForce RTX 4090 takes the top spot for ray tracing graphics cards. This dual cooling system pays off, allowing the 4090 to maintain a high base speed of over 2640 MHz with relative ease. It can be tweaked to as much as 3000 Mhz and above core clocks in some cases.
Asus ROG Matrix Platinum GeForce RTX 4090 GPU Specifications
The graphics card boasts some improvements over the Founders Edition RTX 4060 starting with the clock speeds. In OC Mode, the GPU can reach 2700 MHz and has a default clock speed of 2670 MHz. The Founders Edition, for reference, comes with a base clock speed of 2230 MHz and a boost clock speed of 2520 MHz. This makes the Matrix card the fastest stock RTX 4090 in the market. It is powered by the newer single 16-pin 12VHPWR connector whichNvidia started secretly incorporatingin its Founders Edition cards.
Speaking of differences between the two, the ROG Matrix Platinum GeForce RTX 4090 comes with a 360mm radiator with 700mm tubing and an embedded pump to keep the card cool. It uses a fully custom PCB that has a custom-engineered cold plate and uses a liquid metal thermal compound to dissipate heat. This makes the GPU a 2.5-slot card which is slimmer than the 3-slot form factor of the FE. It also has a TGP of 500W which is 50W higher than the FE card, and Asus recommends a 1000W PSU. There are three MF-12S RGB fans mounted on the radiator, and the card itself has some subtle ARGB lighting that can be controlled through software.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition
NVIDIA’s top-of-the-line GPU, the GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition, contains 16,384 CUDA Cores. It can support up to 8K gaming and allows for actual, smooth ray-tracing gameplay. The Founders Edition card is also an excellent GPU variant in terms of cooling, VRMs, and value.
This graphics card was first shown off at Computex in May and then sent to a few reviewers and overlockers. In July, the ROG Matrix Platinum GeForce RTX 4090broke the world record by going beyond 4 GHz, though it was using a Kingpin Cooling TEK-9 Icon Extreme GPU pot designed to be used with liquid nitrogen or LN2. Allen ‘Splave’ Golibersuch was able to overclock the Asus ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 to 4005 MHz in the GPUPi 32B 3.3 test and 4020 MHz in the GPUPi 1B 3.3 test.
