In his latest stream,Asmongoldtalks about how if someone is “fat” or “ugly,” others will not like them. The specific moment was clipped by a viewer in which the popular streamer discusses the state ofTwitchand its potential decline.

Asmongold started out on Twitch in 2014. Prior to that he already had a platform on YouTube where he talked aboutWorld of Warcraft. At first, it was mainly a hobby, but later on, Asmongold dropped out of college to pursue streaming full-time. From the very beginning, he used a camera in the bottom left corner to show his face, much like the way he streams currently. Originally, his streams focused onWorld of Warcraft, and he shared his extensive knowledge on how to improve at playing the game. His popularity grew among viewers rapidly, becoming one of the most popularWorld of Warcraftstreamers on Twitch. Later on, he started to branch out into different styles of streams.

During Asmongold’s latest stream, he was commenting on how streamers can gain or lose followers. The clipped moment was during a period whenAsmongold was discussing why some streamers may struggleto grow. He said he could guarantee he’d be able to tell why some talented creators have few viewers. At first, when he was prompted to reveal his opinion, he didn’t want to elaborate, worrying he might come across as rude. However, eventually, he claimed it boils down to the fact that if someone is “ugly” or “fat,” people will not want to look at them, especially if the person is a woman, and it won’t matter even if they’re funny.Warning: The following clip has some profanity.

But the topic was not quite as cut and dry as the clip makes it out to be. Prior to that moment, Asmongold talked about how he’s never seen a more “status-conscious” audience than on Twitch. He explained that it seems viewers will automatically think a creator is better just because they already have a lot of viewers compared to a talented streamer who has fewer viewers. He then alsowent on to talk about Mizkif, who also shared his opinion on why people might struggle to gain views on Twitch. He highly recommended that small streamers gain a platform outside of Twitch, as it seems difficult to grow if someone has a presence nowhere else other than the streaming platform.

While it seems Asmongold does think someone’s looks are an important factor in becoming a successful streamer, knowing the context, he paints a much more complex picture. It seems more and more creatorscriticize Twitch for not supporting smaller creatorsas much as already established ones.
