With 2020 nearly at an end, it has been an epic year between rival graphics card titans. Nvidia struck first with its RTX 3000 series, releasing cards with some serious specs. TheirRTX 3070 Ti will launch tomorrow, and has been boosted to compete against AMD’s offerings. Now it is AMD’s time to shine, and the company has just released specs for its Radeon RX 6000 series of cards.
Last month, the specifications for the Radeon RX 6000 series cards leaked, and those leaks proved to be accurate. Theperformance benchmarks for the RX 6000cards look impressive. The official fact sheets released in a press briefing today show the same performance numbers quoted back then. The lengthy presser touts that the graphics cards will “set a new standard for enthusiast-class PC gaming experiences” and boasts life-like visuals and high performance to run the latest games in 4K.

The three cards in the 6000 series lineup will have a somewhat staggered release, with the RX 6800 and RX 6800 XT cards heading to stores on November 18th, and coming in at $579 and $649 USD respectively. The more powerful RX 6900 XT will be available on December 8th and will set PC gamers back a cool $999 USD. After the debacle that was the Nvidia RTX 3080 & 3090 launch, AMD is trying to avoid the shortages that led to price gouging on the secondary market. Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions,Frank Azor hinted on Twitterthat there would be more stock of the Radeon RX 6000 series cards for users to get their hands on.
AMD also shared some of its own testing of the cards, promoting the FPS of its cards when playingGears 5at 4K Ultra. The 6800 could hit up to 70 FPS, the 6800 XT made it up to 84 FPS, and the 6900 XT reached up to 92 FPS. “Up to” leaves room for dips to occur, but the data is impressive, as Gears 5is taxing on any setup. Even these latest cards can struggle with brand new titles, as theNvidia RTX 3090 did withWatch Dogs Legion.
While the leaked info on theRX 6000 XT series reaching a 2.4 GHzclock speed missed the mark by a bit, the cards should still hit 2.2 GHz, which puts them above the Nvidia cards on that benchmark.
Any of these cards will serve amply for a gamer’s PC setup, it’s all just a matter of how much one is willing to pony up for the ultimate graphical fidelity.
