The reveal ofAlan Wake Remasteredhas fans of the Xbox 360 horror-thriller excited for more than just one reason. Obviously, they’re excited to once again revisit Bright Falls and relive the game’s story with higher graphical fidelity, but in recent years, the events of the story have been recontextualized with the release of Remedy Entertainment’sControl. There are a lot of things connectingAlan WaketoControl, but most of the connections are found in just a handful of the hundreds of collectible documents scattered throughout the different departments of the Oldest House. It wasn’t untilControl’sAWEDLC that the two were really paired in a major way.
It’s no secret that Remedy is working on at least oneproject that’s going to follow upControlby being set in the same universe. It doesn’t seem like a coincidence thatAlan Wakewas such a major part ofControl’s DLC, so it seems like the two games will be important for whatever comes next for the series. Whether Wake returns as a playable character or if he just makes appearances similar to his role in theAWEDLC, it is a good thing that a remastered version of the game that started it all is in the works.

Reminding Control Fans What Alan Wake is All About
Although it was a hit at the time, not everyone who playedControlhad playedAlan Wakeor even knew that the two were connected untilAWE. What’s more, there were some major issues withAlan Wakeeven being available to be playedas a result of some legal issues. For a brief period, the game wasn’t able to be purchased online making it inaccessible for many fans looking to try it out.
Witha remastered version ofAlan Wakecoming this fall, then it would do a lot to helpControlfans understand what the game and its world are all about. Now that the game’s events have been recontextualized byControl, it’s become even more interesting to revisit than it already was in the first place. Additionally, with the game being remastered and not simply ported to new consoles, then there could be even more connective tissue between the two games, giving returning fans a reason to experienceAlan Wakeall over again.

Setting The Stage for the Next Control/Alan Wake Game
Apart from theControlmultiplayer title, it’s not entirely clear what else Remedy Entertainment is working on. The company has made a handful of statements on Twitter regardingthe next Remedy game, however nothing concrete is known about it yet. If something that puts bothAlan WakeandControlcenter stage together is coming, then it would be worth Remedy’s time to remasterAlan Waketo remind fans of its story but also to add more details about what’s to come. There could be additional scenes or documents referring to the next Remedy title hidden in a new version ofAlanWakethat set things up for what’s to come in a major way.
WhileAlan Wake Remasteredwon’t change anything major from the game’s original story, there’s a good chance that it will include some small secrets to help set the stage for the next title. It’s not known publically if it’ll beAlan Wake2,Control 2, or something else entirely, but afterControlwent out of its way to make critical ties toAlan Wake, fans can expect an even bigger crossover than what took place inAWE. Hopefully, the remaster answers plenty of questions and, in true Remedy fashion, raises plenty more.
