It was recently unveiled that Remedy Entertainment is working onAlan Wake 2, with a proposed release date of 2023. With thehorror sequel being announced at this year’s Game Awards, fans are no doubt hugely excited about what will be in store for them when it finally drops. With the next game looking to move towards an M-rating, there seems to be an emphasis on it being a lot scarier than its predecessor. Alongside that, more additional information is being talked about, including confirmation that the sequel will retain the perspective of the original entry.

According to a recent tweet from creative director Sam Lake,Alan Wake 2will be a third-person game, just like the first installment. Whether there was some talk about it perhaps being in first-person is uncertain, but many will probably be pleased with this stylistic choice, especially as third-person lends itself more to the classic era of survival horror games, and is something that is making a comeback in recent titles, such as the remake ofResident Evil 3and the upcoming indie gamePost Trauma.

On top of this, Lake also confirmed thatAlan Wake 2will see the return of the original game’s cast, with Matthew Porretta reprising his role as the voice of the titular Alan, and Ilkka Villi stepping back into motion capture as the model of the protagonist. It seems as though, from this information alone, that the sequel will be something that will be a faithful continuation of the series from the original crew who worked on the 2010 game, while also moving into something that favors a more scary survival horror title. Not that the first game didn’t have elements of that, of course.

The news about the sequel comes just a few months afterthe remaster ofAlan Wakewas announced, with some believing that the studio was currently working hard on a secretive project at the same time. The original older generation game was something of a hidden gem in the horror world. It’s moody setting and references to Stephen King novels made it a cult hit.

Remedy also believesAlan Wake 2will be its most beautiful game to date, and will be utilizing the Norightlight Engine, the same one used for the company’s previous release,Control. While there’s still a while to wait until the sequel gets released, there will no doubt be trailers and teasers and screenshots a-plenty for fans to gorge themselves on before the full horror arrives.
