Summary

Late last year, Remedy Entertainment officially revealedAlan Wake 2. This reveal came over 12 years after the initial game was released and many fans likely felt that the game would never come out. It was clear from the start thatAlan Wake 2would be a survival-horror gameand take the franchise in a new direction. The game, however, could put the famous writer on the path of another Remedy Entertainment game.

In 2019, the developer released a new IP that had an unexpected connection toAlan Wake.Controlwould review well with critics and went on to sell over three million copies worldwide. A sequel to the game is currently in development but it seems very likely that the Federal Bureau of Control may make an appearance inAlan Wake 2considering what went down in the firstControlgame.

How Control Connected With Alan Wake

Controlwas surprisingly full ofAlan Wakereferencesthroughout. This ranged from random documents found throughout the game to full-blown name-dropping of events, calling the incident at Bright Falls the AWE. The band, the Old Gods of Asgard is one thatControlprotagonist Jesse Faden listens to and several more subtle nods to the game can be seen by those who know what to look for. The franchises would get closer, however, nearly a year afterControlwas released.

TheAlan WakeDLC forControlhad a few horrifying implications for the famous writer. After the Bright Falls incident, the FBC came in and took over the investigation of the incident. Alan Wake then appears before Jesse Faden. Specifically, she hears his messages through the Hotline Calls and causes trouble for the organization’s new director through his world-altering abilities. It’s made very clear that he caused the incident in the game’sAWEexpansion which lead to a section of the building being completely sealed off. More disturbingly, it’s somewhat implied that might have caused the incident with the Hiss as well. Either way, it’s very unlikely that Jesse Faden and the FBC are going to let this go.

How Control May Tie Into Alan Wake 2

It appears thatAlan Wake 2is mostly going to do its own thing. The story that is set up appears to be similar to that of the first game, with the titular protagonist having lost his memory and featuring a town full of horrors that he likely created. Furthermore, the Federal Agents who appear in the game’s trailers are not FBC agents and work for the FBI. However,Alan Wake 2’s gameplay trailerwas full of references toControl, further strengthening the connection between the two games. All of this does point to where a crossover may happen.

Based on the information currently available, if Jesse Faden and the FBC were to appear inAlan Wake 2it’s reasonable to assume that they won’t play a major role. It is far more likely that the character and organization would appear at the end of the game or in some kind of DLC in order to clean up whatever mess that Alan left in his wake. It could also be that the ending or DLC could set up the events forControl 2.

There is no way to know for sure what Remedy Entertainment has in store for the sequel. The company’s overallmarketing onAlan Wake 2has been vaguewhich has been concerning for some. From a narrative perspective, it makes sense for the FBC to make some kind of appearance in the game. Whether it will be a cameo or a full role remains to be seen, but the sequel will more than likely set the famous writer collision course withControl.

Alan Wake 2releases June 30, 2025, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
