Activision’sCall of Duty: Modern Warfarehas seen a number of updates since its third season of content began. On April 22, an update was pushed out thatfixed an attachment exploit and various bugs, but already Activision’s Player Support account on Twitter has teased another update coming next week with a mysterious aim.
ApparentlyCall of Duty: Modern Warfareplayers on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One can expect an update on April 28 that will involve a few extra steps based on the Thursday Tweet. After the update is installed, players will have to launch a menu in-game that will allow them to download “Data Pack 1,” and from there they’ll have to restart the game. There’s no indication as to what the update and this Data Pack will contain for thebest-selling game of 2020 so far, and it seems there will not be anything happening for PC players.

Multiple individuals have responded to the Tweet asking questions, such as a player named Lowery Day who wanted to know how much spaceModern Warfarewill take up following the update. The Support account responded telling Day to direct message it with any further questions, but he says he received a reply telling him to “refer to the original tweet about the update.”
Given the lack of a more official announcement from any of Activision’s main channels and the fact that PC users are seemingly not going to see the same support, it’s likely the April 28 update is meant to address a console-specific bug of some kind rather than adding any new content that has thus far been announced forModern WarfareSeason 3. Already, the new season has broughtModern WarfareandWarzonea new playable operator, Ronin, as well asnew playlistsincluding one themed around players being stuck at home due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The first-person shooter is likely going to be seeing increased traffic this weekend leading up to the mysterious update. Activision andInfinity Ward announced a free multiplayer weekendfor the second week in a row, offering a limited playlist of game modes and maps until April 27.
At the same time asModern Warfarehas been seeing free multiplayer weekends,Call of Duty: Mobileannounced a 2020 World Championshipfeaturing a $1,000,000 prize. Between these events and continual updates being applied, there is plenty to keep fans of the series occupied while they are stuck at home.
