A PlayStation fan was beside themselves with excitement after finding thePlayStation VR2for sale in a local store just over a week ahead of the launch of Sony’s feature-packed VR headset. VR fans were able to find out what all is included with the next-gen headset when Sony released anofficial PlayStation VR2 unboxing videoearlier this week, but most gamers will have to wait until the official release on February 22 to try the device for themselves.

Sony is hoping that theinnovative features of the PlayStation VR2will help differentiate it from both PC headsets and standalone competitors like the Meta Quest 2 and Pico Neo 4. Featuring high-tech inclusions like advanced controller haptics and Tobii eye tracking, which allows players to control some in-game features with their eyes and lets developers ensure that games render at the highest quality exactly where players are looking, the PS VR2 will be the first experience many gamers have with high-quality VR gaming. While getting used to being tethered to the PS5 may prove frustrating to gamers used to the wireless freedom of headsets like the Meta Quest 2, the wired connection should allow for the sorts of AAA experiences previously limited to PC VR titles.

Although the bundle they purchased came with a code forPS VR2 launch titleHorizon Call of the Mountain, the post indicates that the system wouldn’t allow them to download the game yet.

While Caerise was unable to play any games on the PS VR2 yet, they did share their impressions about other features of the headset that were available to test. Commenting on thePS VR2’s Cinematic Mode, which lets PS VR2 owners view movies and play flatscreen games on a massive, virtual 1080p HDR screen at 24, 60, or 120hz, Caerise stated that the picture quality makes it “very much an alternative even when you have 77inch Oled TV.” The post also included pictures of the PS VR2 settings menu, which will let players adjust screen size and brightness, among other options.

With only days to go before gamers worldwide can grab their very ownPS VR2, this lucky Redditor already seems ecstatic about their purchase. And while it remains to be seen whether the high-powered headset will live up to the hype, it’s clear that Sony is hoping to deliver something special.
